La Madrid Shipyard Drives Development and Creates Jobs in the Nueva Tablada Neighborhood

Paraguay operates around 3,200 barges and has the third largest river fleet in the world, after the United States and China. Regionally, it is the largest in South America. Because of this, the shipbuilding industry and the services it provides are extremely important, positively impacting job creation and development.

La Madrid Shipyard is a prime example in this sector, with over 35 years of experience in the market. For decades, it has contributed to community development, generating hundreds of jobs and benefiting several hundred people. La Madrid Shipyard S.A. is a partner of Dreamers S.A. and is strategically located on the Paraguay River in the Costanera Norte area of Asunción.

La Madrid is a company dedicated to building and repairing tugboats, ships, and barges in Paraguay and Argentina. Its production lines are equipped with modern technology, enabling it to meet all the requirements of the waterway’s shipowners.

Its technical staff and specialized workforce build and repair vessels with high quality, quickly and at competitive prices, complying with international standards for quality, safety, and the environment. The company has 500 meters of dock space on the river, with a total property area of 24,000 m².

Permits and Significant Contributions to the Treasury

La Madrid Shipyard also has all the necessary infrastructure and equipment, along with environmental permits from MADES (Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development), authorization from the General Directorate of Merchant Marine, and approval from the General Naval Prefecture of the Paraguayan Navy, as well as full tax compliance with the National Directorate of Tax Revenues.

The company’s directors explained that, beyond meeting all legal requirements, La Madrid Shipyard contributes millions to the treasury and also supports the social growth of the neighborhood.

Job Creation and Community Benefits

Currently, La Madrid employs over 100 workers, all with social security coverage, and benefits more than 500 people, including workers’ families, suppliers, and neighbors of the Nueva Tablada area, where the shipyard is located.
